Ashgabat travel guide

Marble, gold and monuments, below the Kopetdag mountains.

Ashgabat was rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1948 and transformed again after independence into a city of white marble, gold domes and grand monuments. It is unlike any other capital.

Outside the city lie the Parthian Fortresses of Nisa, a UNESCO site, and stables breeding the famous Akhal-Teke horses.
