Things to do in Tashkent: travel guide

Where most journeys start: bazaars, metro art and a green, modern city.

Tashkent is Uzbekistan’s capital and its main international gateway. Much of the city was rebuilt after the 1966 earthquake, so it feels open and green, with wide avenues, parks and fountains. The old quarter around the Khast Imam complex survives, and Chorsu Bazaar is one of the great markets of Central Asia.

Spend a day here at the start or end of a trip. Domestic flights and high-speed trains leave Tashkent for the rest of the country, and the Chimgan mountains are an easy day trip.
