Dushanbe travel guide

Tree-lined avenues, grand monuments and the start of the Pamir road.

Dushanbe grew from a village with a Monday market (dushanbe means "Monday") into Tajikistan’s capital in the 20th century. Today it is a city of wide avenues, plane trees and new monumental buildings.

It is the starting point for the Pamir Highway and a good base for the Hisor fortress and the Varzob valley.
