Rishtan travel guide

Blue-green glazes from a town of potters.

Rishtan’s local red clay and its traditional ishkor glaze, made from the ashes of desert plants, give its pottery the deep blue and turquoise colours seen across Uzbekistan. Many families have worked as potters for generations.

A visit usually includes a master’s workshop, a demonstration on the wheel and the chance to try painting a plate.
